Issue 1 - Car wash day

Just after the declaration of the IAWIS group on 16th September 2016, the members of the Ambassadors were involved in the first activity of the group: Car washing. The purpose of the event is to raise the first amount of money to the Ambassador’s fund. The members had a great day!

At 7:30 am, the first volunteers of the IAWIS gathered up at the planed position: The massive Wellspring sign. The leader of the new group, Nghi (aka Knee), instructed us how to properly wash cars. We had our first customer at the first minutes and soon grew very busy. Some came a bit latter than the leader and some volunteers. As soon as people arrived, they can see the blue- shirted children having fun washing the first car. More cars came!!!!! We divided into groups to wash different vehicles. The environment seemed to be fun and exciting at that moment.

However, a problem popped up. For some several minutes, the car wash team received no customer. We watched people riding their motorbikes away from us. Some of us grew impatient. 15 minutes later, the IAWIS car wash event, as expected, was out of customer. A few groups of volunteers then ran around the school and inform the event to the parents. We needed to have the confidence to interrupt the parents meeting and persuade them to use the service. It turned out to be a stampede by then.

We quickly ran and talked to the teachers and parents, some holding a massive canvas showing our official poster, some carrying handmade posters from a few minutes earlier. We were very lucky as the parents showed no sign of anger or disappointment in us. Nevertheless, very few agreed to leave their car or motorbike to us.

We did have more vehicles to clean eventually. Even happier, some teachers gave us huge amount of tips. We were so happy and worked more productively. Everybody felt relieved after more and more vehicles are delivered to the washing place. It was a wonderful day overall. However, we must admit that staying under the scorching sunlight was very tiring.

We are really looking forward to be involved in more wonderful events of IAWIS.

Issue 2 - Lessons We Learned and Tips for Future Hanoi Tours.

The last Autumn tour was one of the most challenging Hanoi tour we have ever had. Our tour guides got very little time to prepare their brochures and rehearse their information. In addition, the scorching sun of that afternoon quickly tired us out. Nevertheless, we still completed our mission and derived a few important tips for future tour guides:
    upload_2016-10-2_23-5-55.png
    1. Pay attention: Stay highly focused during group meetings so you would know what your group is planning for the tour. A lot of team members didn't participate because they had no idea what their own group was doing.

    2. Be wise: Choose tour locations that are within walking distance from each other. You don't want to walk for kilometers in the scorching heat.

    3. Be fair: Divide the jobs equally among team members so everyone helps and nobody has to do too many things.

    4. Have rules: All the members in the group must talk and have a role. If he/she doesn't talk, be involved or prefer to be a sponger, then there should be a punishment.

    5. Show up prepared: Know what you're doing and how you're going to do it. Some tour guides were struggling with transmitting information and facts, which led to the tourists being confused.

    6. Be thoughtful: Always keep your tourists accompanied and NEVER leave your tourists by themselves. Also, always take notes.

These six tips are what we learned from Autumn tour. If you have important tips or interesting stories to share, don't hesitate to tell us in the comment :)
